We ran quite a couple of miles on the 3G Cardio Elite Runner Treadmill for this review. At the end of our test session, we were left with no option but to crown it the best treadmill of the year. In the lines below, we’ll tell you why we gave it such a prestigious title. It would be ideal for both an athlete or for commercial use in a gym.

Before our tester began their workout session, an iPhone was connected to the treadmill. The Cardio Runner’s speakers were impressive – that was everyone’s opinion. Next, we turned on the fan and immediately felt the refreshing power. The fan was as good as expected.

Getting on the treadmill, we felt the commercial grade Ortho Flex Shock suspension system. Obviously, this is one of the reasons why this treadmill is expensive. Apparently, you’ll most likely forget you are on a treadmill as this machine absorbs the thumps of your feet. The 3G Cardio’s treadmill belt is the orthopedic type. It is suited for both running and walking. You can notice significantly less impact on your knees with this treadmill compared to others.

As the motor kicks in, you’ll realize how powerful a 4.0HP motor is. Working out on the treadmill is smooth and easy. The track is relatively the largest in its segment. It measures 22” x 62” and is suitable for people who are over 6” tall.

As our session on the treadmill progressed, we adjusted our speed. The 3G Cardio treadmill speed ranges from 0.5 mph to 12 mph. Additionally, we checked out the 8 built-in programs on the console and they were simply mind-blowing. It is worth noting that the treadmill has a heart rate control feature as well as a one-touch speed and elevation setting. With this setting, you can incline the machine by 15%. Furthermore, creating your own custom workout program is a breeze. There are two available slots to save your custom programs. We did, however, wish that it had a larger display screen and was foldable. The 3G Cardio treadmill is suitable for running, jogging, and walking.

The Proform Performance 300i treadmill is our best treadmill for home use. To be honest, we were skeptical about the effectiveness of the 2.0HP motor. However, we weren’t disappointed. It motor performed similarly to the one found in the 3G Cardio treadmill.

We took time to acquaint ourselves with the physical features of the treadmill. The Proform 300i treadmill sports a 16” x 50” track which is not the biggest at all. A huge disappointment for runners and walkers especially the tall ones. It does make up for that deficiency with its adjustable speed settings with a range between 0 – 10mph.

On the center console are control buttons as well as a display screen. The display screen is connected to a heart rate monitor which is monitored via grip pulse. Furthermore, the treadmill comes with an incline feature. You can easily incline the treadmill to about 10%.

The Proform treadmill belt is designed to support individuals with weights of up to 300lbs. This should confidently cater to the weight of a chubby individual looking to burn some calories. The belt absorbs your movements, thanks to the ProShox Cushioning.

Connecting your iFit to the Proform Treadmill is a simple task. Additionally, there is Bluetooth connectivity through which you can play music via the moderate speakers. You can as well make use of the audio jack.

View Main Features / Pros & Cons

  • Sturdy track for walking and mild running.
  • Bluetooth connectivity, iFit connectivity, audio jack and moderate speakers.
  • 2 HP keeps the motor rolling.
  • Support for a weight of up to 300lb.
  • Heart rate monitor and adjustable speed setting options.

  • The 2.0HP motor is strong enough to support your 300lb weight.
  • You enjoy your workout while playing music.
  • Check your heart rate on the go when you exercise via the grip pulse heart rate monitor.
  • Simply incline the treadmill at the touch of a button to suit your routine.

  • The treadmill makes some funny noises when the speed is increased to 6mph and above.

The XTERRA TR150 folding treadmill is the best budget treadmill you can buy. Beyond being a budget machine, it encapsulates tons of features that make it worth owning. It features a running deck that measures 16” x 50” – same track dimensions as the Proform 300i treadmill. The track is built using the XTRASoft deck cushioning technology. It ultimately absorbs every shock created by the impact of your feet on the treadmill belt. Surprisingly, the deck is sturdy enough to carry individuals who weigh up to 250lbs.

A quick look at the center console shows a wide array of buttons conspicuously positioned for one-touch access. The preset speed buttons are located here and offer unmatched control over your workout routine without interrupting you. Additionally, the center console also features a 5” LCD screen that displays a plethora of data. Your time, speed, calories burned, distanced done, and pulse data are displayed on the screen. Moreover, you get to choose any of the 12 different workout programs which are available on the treadmill by default.

Moving from the screen down to the handlebars, you’ll find a hand pulse grip. This helps to keep you in your workout zone as you run your race. There is also an adjustable incline feature on this treadmill. However, we don’t really like the fact that the incline setting can only be controlled manually. It makes up for that with its 2.25HP motor with speed ranging between 0.5 to 10 mph.

Did we mention that folding and unfolding the treadmill is simple and quick? Apparently, we also forgot to tell you that the treadmill features a reading rack with optional viewing angle adjustment.

Are you a runner? Do you need a treadmill that suits your running lifestyle? If your answers to those questions are yes, then you need the NordiTrack T6.5S Treadmill. The name already gives it away as a treadmill for running. Aside from that, the NordiTrack T6.5S treadmill is equipped with 20 preset workout programs.

Each program is specifically designed to help you achieve your fitness goals. NordiTrack said the programs were specifically designed by a certified personal fitness trainer. Truth is, we don’t know who designed it. However, we know the programs are great – at least we tried some of them out.

The NordiTrack T6.5S treadmill is powered by a 2.6 HP motor powerful enough to support your 300 lbs weight. As with most recent treadmills, it comes with an incline feature. The incline can only go as high as 10% and is automated. This is in sharp contrast with the incline feature of the XTERRA Treadmill. Also, it can reach speeds of up to 10mph. NordiTrack equipped the treadmill with a 20” x 50” track. This is a tad above the usual 16” x 50’ we’ve seen on two treadmills in the course of our review.

Getting entertained during a workout is as simple as connecting your device to the treadmill’s audio console. The console works seamlessly with iPods, mp3 players, and even your mobile phones. Furthermore, the NordiTrack treadmill is compatible with iFit. Using the iFit module, you can customize your workouts via the Google Maps training routes. Who says you can’t run the streets of Paris in your New York apartment? Unfortunately, you’d have to purchase an iFit subscription for this to be possible.

We are particularly in love with the one-touch access on the treadmill. You don’t need to slow down or totally interrupt your workout to make any changes.

View Main Features / Pros & Cons

  • 20 preset workout programs for everyone.

  • Quickly glance through your data on the 5” display LCD.
  • Check your heart rate using the CardioGrip heart rate sensor.
  • The 20” x 50” track is large enough to accommodate your activities.
  • Easily connects to your audio devices for non-stop entertainment during a workout.
  • Select your choice from the 20 preset workout programs.

Nautilus is a household name when you mention the best treadmill brands. They are in the business of producing some of the finest treadmills. The Nautilus T616 treadmill is a typical example of their ingenuity.

Furthermore, the track is powered by a 3.0HP motor which is paired with a super strong belt. The track is supported by the StrikeZone Cushioning system which ensures smoothness during your sessions. It dampens the shocks created by the thumping of your feet on the treadmill’s track. Also worth mention is the 300 lbs weight limit on the treadmill.

The Nautilus treadmill can be inclined to 15% at the touch of a button. Furthermore, the treadmill is packed with more than 2 dozen preset workout programs – 26 to be precise. The T616 treadmill comes has a heart rate monitor, Bluetooth connectivity feature and can easily connect to any Nautilus trainer app which comes in handy when used for fitness tracking.

There’s one feature we liked the most on the Nautilus T616 treadmill we tested. Although we didn’t explore this feature in-depth, it’s worth mentioning. This treadmill can sync with the RunSocial App which connects you in real time with other runners in 19 different locations around the world. These 19 locations offer up to 27 different routes for your exercises. It’s quite similar to the Google Maps integration feature found on some other treadmill brands.

Storing away the Nautilus T616 treadmill after use is easy. The SoftDrop folding system takes care of that. Talk about having a hassle-free workout session!

If you’ve ever moved a treadmill alone before, you’ll know how hard that task can be. Taking several cues from customers who have faced such difficulties, Ancheer made the Bellar Folding Electric Treadmill. Now, when you mention the best portable treadmills, you get a superb piece of gym equipment.

The Bellar treadmill is an outstanding treadmill. It sports a 3.0HP motor capable of supporting weights of up to 309 lbs. The treadmill itself weighs just about one-third of that. Underneath the treadmill’s track is the wheels that make movement easier. Simply fold the treadmill and wheel it away to your preferred storage location.

Ancheer equipped this Bellar treadmill with a track that measures 18” x 50”. It is suitable for running and jogging. However, tall runners may find the short length of the track inconveniencing. The track is equipped with a spring damping system which absorbs any shocks and makes running/walking smooth. During our testing period, we were amazed at how quiet this treadmill was compared to other models.

One thing we like in particular about this treadmill is its 10.1-inch screen. Even our best treadmill for the year doesn’t have a display anywhere near it. You have access to a plethora of features courtesy of the 10.1-inch screen. Want to stream movies as you work out? Simply connect online. Additionally, you get to see real-time information about your speed, distance, heart rate, calories burned etc. The display is touch sensitive. That’s not all. There’s WiFi, Bluetooth, a HiFi stereo system and of course, the built-in smart touch feature.

We looked around for the incline buttons but couldn’t find any. Then it dawned on us that the Bellar treadmill has no incline feature. Aside from that, we didn’t like the fact that the Bluetooth connectivity only connects with headphones and stereo but not with our phones.

  • Massive 10.1” screen.
  • WiFi, HiFi stereo and Bluetooth connectivity for unstoppable entertainment during workouts.

Our best folding treadmill is the GoPlus 2.5HP folding treadmill. In the course of this review, we’ve only seen a few treadmills that can be controlled via an app. And the GoPlus treadmill is the leader of the pack. Connecting the treadmill to your phone is easy. First, you need to scan the QR code on the treadmill’s control panel. Next, you are required to download the “Smart Treadmill” app from the app store. Then connect the phone to the treadmill via Bluetooth and launch the app on your phone. The connection is quite seamless and easy to do.

This treadmill sports a 2.5HP motor which is paired with an 18” x 50” treadmill track. The track is sturdy enough to carry a maximum weight of about 250 lbs. Additionally, it has a speed range of about 0.5 to 10mph. We noticed that it made noticeable noise as we increased the speed. That’s expected of a treadmill in its class. There is a ProCushion cushioning system available in the base of the treadmill.

On the center console is a 5” LCD display which gives you accurate information about your distance, speed, calories, pulse, and incline level at a glance. The treadmill features a soft drop foldable system for easy folding and unfolding. There is a transportation wheel on the treadmill for easy movement. This is similar to the wheels on the Bellar treadmill.

When we say that something is cheap, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s inferior. Certainly, the Weslo Cadence R5.2 treadmill isn’t inferior – we had a hands-on experience with it. But there were a handful of things missing from it in contrast to its closely priced counterpart, the XTERRA treadmill.

The Weslo Cadence treadmill is equipped with a 2.5HP motor. This provides the treadmill with enough power to carry a weight of up to 250lbs on its 16” x 50” track. You can easily incline the treadmill using the two-position adjustable incline feature. Also, you get to enjoy a smooth workout thanks to the Comfort Cell Cushioning system.

We didn’t expect much from the treadmill and it didn’t disappoint us either. However, we are really not impressed by the fact that there are only 6 preset workout programs. Additionally, we weren’t impressed by the large LCD display which was in no wise different from that of its competitors. The center console is just basic – no speakers nor connectivity features of any sort.

Jogging on the Weslo Cadence treadmill is comfortable. On the other hand, we didn’t really feel “very comfortable” running on it although we adjusted our speeds at intervals. There is a speed adjustment feature which allows you select speeds of up to 10mph. We named it the best treadmill for jogging because of how suitable it is for brisk speed walking and jogging.

View Main Features / Pros & Cons

  • 2.5HP motor paired with a 16” x 50” track.
  • Supports weights of up to 200 lbs.

  • Foldable technology.

  • The Weslo Cadence treadmill is best suited for jogging and brisk walking.
  • It can support weights of up to 250 lbs as it is propelled by a powerful 2.5HP motor which in turn propels the 16” x 50” track.
  • The treadmill can be folded easily and stored away after use.
  • An effective cushioning system makes every session smooth.

  • Features like a wheel and speakers are absent.

Last but definitely not the least treadmill on our review list is the best treadmill for walking. The SereneLife Smart digital treadmill is apt for walking. In fact, one reviewer dubbed it the best treadmill for seniors.

We were amazed by some of the features of the SereneLife treadmill. To start with, it is easy to connect to your phone, laptop or tablet via Bluetooth. This makes it possible for you to track your exercises with your mobile device. Moreover, you can speed up your workout to 6mph via the adjustable speed settings. However, the motor may not be sturdy enough to support you in such a speedy setting. The 1HP motor is one of the flaws of this treadmill. We did like the fact that the treadmill is compatible with iFit app.

Away from that, walkers can enjoy some other features like the digital LCD display and the preset training modes. The LCD display screen is moderately sized and displays information like speed, calories burned, runtime, as well as heart rate.

Folding the treadmill away is a piece of cake for anyone no matter their age. There’s also an emergency power off and a safety pin all of which come in handy when storing the device after use. And lastly, you can share workout activities on your social media accounts. This can come in handy when you need to show your fitness trainer what you’ve been up to.

The SereneLife digital treadmill supports a maximum weight of about 265 lbs.

Why Should You Get A Treadmill?

The benefits of owning a treadmill are virtually endless. We all know aerobic exercise is critical for maintaining good overall health, but did you know it also boosts your confidence, brain function and emotional stability?

Too busy? Set your laptop in front of your treadmill and exercise while you work.

Too boring? Walk on your treadmill while you binge-watch the latest series on Netflix.

In this article, we’ve selected and reviewed the best treadmills in the market based on a variety of important factors. Not to mention our review of the best elliptical bikes and the best rowing machines.

Types of Treadmills

There are different types of treadmills available, including:

Motorized Treadmills

Motorized treadmills come with an inbuilt motor that powers the belt. They require a power source which is used to power the motor that in turn powers the belt, which is best suited if you need a versatile treadmills for walking, jogging and sprinting.

Manual Treadmill

A manual treadmill uses no motors. Instead, it works when you simply get on it and begin to walk. However, you need to grab the handle to be able to generate enough power for the tread to move. It is best suited for jogging and running, or if you’re on a tighter budget.

Treadmill Online Buying Guide

Treadmills are not all made equal. In addition, everyone’s needs are different. With that in mind, it’s important to consider the factors that are relevant to your situation.

The best treadmill on our list is undeniably expensive. This is a clear indication that treadmills can sell for a few hundred dollars and as high as thousands of dollars. You’ve got to dig deep into your pocket if you want to own the best treadmill available on the market.

Conversely, there are very inexpensive treadmills on our list, and you may even find a used one on Amazon if you’re lucky.

Additionally, if you are concerned about price, don’t buy a commercial treadmill. Commercial treadmills are only handy when a lot of people are going to be using it on a daily basis – when it is going to be used in the gym.

For a lot of consumers, the brand name on the product matters. It’s hard choosing a treadmill with similar features from different brands when you’ve not tested any from either of the two. The brand name, however, shouldn’t be a major prerequisite for selecting the best treadmill of your choice. In fact, you should consider the next factor.

The Treadmill’s Horsepower (HP)

As earlier mentioned, treadmills are powered by a motor. The motor generates a certain amount of strength otherwise called horsepower. It usually ranges from 1HP to as much as 5HP. The higher the HP, the more suitable the treadmill will be for a variety of activities. However, the HP may significantly affect the price of a treadmill.

For a beginner treadmill user, a 1.5HP treadmill should do. However, you should consider getting a treadmill with a 2HP or 3HP motor if you intend to use it frequently, especially for running.

Maximum Weight Supported

Treadmills are designed to carry people with specific weights – many people are still oblivious to this fact. The motors in the treadmill cannot support individuals who have weights above the specified maximum limit. Many treadmills in the market don’t support weights beyond 400 lbs.

Get a treadmill that has a maximum carrying capacity of 50 lbs. or 100 lbs. more than your weight if you are not going to be the only one using the treadmill in your home. This way you would have taken into consideration the weight of other people.

Additionally, always keep a weighing balance handy so people can check their weight before using the treadmill.

Storage Space

This is important for everyone who is keen on getting the best treadmill there is. It matters where you keep the treadmill when it’s in use and when it’s not in use. Always place your treadmill close to a power outlet. Furthermore, keep the treadmill in a spot with ample space around it. And lastly, if you don’t have a lot of space to store the treadmill in your home, you should consider getting a foldable treadmill. You can fold the treadmill when it is not in use. This is one of the best treadmills for homes that have little storage spaces for their treadmills.

What exercises are you doing on the treadmill?

As we earlier mentioned, there are different types of treadmills. The exercise you intend to do on a treadmill is a major determinant of the type of treadmill you will buy.

For instance, you need a treadmill designed for running if you intend to run more on a treadmill. You can jog and also walk on such a treadmill. On the other hand, runners will not be comfortable using a treadmill for walkers.

Get a treadmill designed for both running and walking if you want to do both activities. This should cater for your needs and for the few people that may be using the treadmill in your home.

Buy a commercial treadmill for your gym. Don’t buy a treadmill meant for the home and keep it in the gym – the machines won’t last.

What’s the Deck/track Size?

A treadmill’s deck/track is the tread board where you walk or run. Treadmills have different deck sizes ranging from 50” to 60” in length and 20” to 20” in width. The longer the length of the track, the more suitable it is for runners.

Runners and other users that are more than 6’ tall should go for treadmills with deck lengths up to 60”.

Treadmill Features

Standard treadmills don’t come with some perky features. Moreover, high-end premium treadmills pack a punch and make every workout session worth enjoying. Some of these features include

  1. Automated incline
  2. LCD screens (with TV broadcast ability)
  3. Audio input (with Bluetooth/iPod connectivity)
  4. Workout programs/programming extras
  5. Fans
  6. Shock absorption/cushioning system
  7. Speed
  8. Cup holders

Some of these features may not be essential to a great workout routine, but having them won’t hurt. Furthermore, it is important to bear in mind that the number of features a treadmill has can also affect its price significantly.

In recent times, treadmill manufactures have had to combat the level of unpleasant noise treadmills make when they are in use. However, there is a likelihood you might get an older model treadmill that may be a bit loud when in use. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s specification about sound.

In Conclusion

From our extensive review, we’ve seen the good, the bad and the best treadmills there are. All these treadmills we have reviewed have their strength and weaknesses which we tried to highlight in the review.

[wp-review id=”2477″]

There’s no doubt that you wouldn’t have any difficulties selecting the best treadmill that suits your needs. Always remember to follow the manufacturer’s instruction – it’s the key to treadmill longevity.
